Maersk changes on Asia-Europe route
2009/2/25
Maersk Line has announced a series of enhancements and adjustments to its Asia-Europe network.
They include improved direct North and East China coverage to Turkey and the Black Sea, including one of the fastest transit times in the market from Busan to Evyap; Shanghai to Hamburg and Bremerhaven in just 24 and 22 days respectively; new direct service from Korea and North China to Hamburg; new direct services from Le Havre to Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, and Japan; and improved Oceania coverage via Tanjung Pelepas connecting to their Boomerang service.
"We are pleased that, even in the face of challenging times, we can continue to develop our services and provide new opportunities for our customers. We are continuously optimising our network and looking for ways to make our operations more cost effective and competitive," said Lee Sissons, director, Maersk Line Asia-Europe services.
Further, as a result of the market instability in the transatlantic trade, Maersk has announced general rate increases, effective April 1.
The increases between Northern Europe and the East Coast and Gulf Coast of North America are US$160 per TEU and $220 per FEU.
The increases between Northern Europe and the West Coast of North America are $200 per TEU and $300 per FEU.
The increases apply equally to all Eastbound and Westbound cargo moving between the US and Canada and Northern Europe.
