Saint Petersburg investment up 56% in 2008

The Seaport of Saint Petersburg spent over US$23.8 million on expanding its facilities in 2008, up around 56 percent on the year, Prime-TASS reported.
The Seaport of Saint-Petersburg is comprised of four stevedore companies operating at the Greater Port of St Petersburg.
Among the biggest expenditures, the port spent $3.6 million on the construction of the first stage of a car terminal for the Third Stevedore Company; $5 million on the design and construction of a ro-ro terminal for the First Stevedore Company; and $11.2 million on the design and equipment purchases for the first stage of a container terminal for the Fourth Stevedore Company.
The port’s stevedore companies increased their cargo handling one percent on the year to 59.9 million tonnes in 2008.
