Russian International Register of Vessels numbers 241 vessels with total dwt of 1.27 mln t as of Feb 1, 09

As of February 1, 2009, Russian International Register of Vessels numbered 241 vessels with total deadweight of 1.27 million tonnes, PortNews IAA learnt from Aleksei Klyavin, Director of the Department of State Policy in the field of Maritime and River, as saying at the enlarged meeting of Russia’s Federal Agency of Marine and River Transport held on February 26, 2009, in Moscow. Mr. Klyavin also said new vessels with total deadweight of about 300,000 tonnes are likely to be registered with RIRV within the nearest three - four months.
The Federal Law No 168-FZ of the Russian Federation on Introduction of Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Russian Federation in Connection With the Creation of the Russian International Register of Vessels was adopted on December 20, 2005. According to the Law RIRV registers vessels transporting cargoes, passengers and luggage and rendering other services related to such transportation. Shipowners, which registered their vessels with RIRV are exempt from property tax, profit tax, transport tax and VAT. Instead they pay a registration fee depending on tonnage and annual tonnage charge in the form of state duty.
