Manila to x-ray shipments
2009/3/23
The Bureau of Customs (BoC) in the Philippines will begin implementing the mandatory X-ray scanning of shipments entering the Batangas port next month, the Manila Bulletin reported.
"We will start operating the machines on April 4. That is when the first containerised vessel will arrive. This is only the first, and there will be 150 container vans loaded in the vessel," X-ray inspection project chief Lourdes Mangaoang said.
Mangaoang explained that three mobile X-ray units and a relocatable X-ray machine have been deployed at the Port of Batangas to accommodate the expected entry of containerised cargo there with the acquisition of new equipment.
The bureau acquired the heavy-duty haulers and other machines to provide a new feasible port entry for importers and PEZA locators and declog the Port of Manila (PoM) and Manila International Container Port (MICP), the major ports of entry in Luzon.
