Evergreen denies Kaohsiung pullout

Evergreen Shipping Group Founder Chang Ron-far denies in Singapore a new report that the shipping group plans to withdraw from Kaohsiung harbour, saying the company is unable to abandon Kaohsiung harbour in wake of the goods in southern Taiwan.
The global rank of Kaohsiung harbour keeps falling and its loading and off-loading business drops further after the commercial run of Taipei harbour on March 9, Taiwan Business News reported.
Three local shipping companies invested jointly in the Taipei Port Container Terminal to handle goods in central and northern Taiwan.
Media reported that Evergreen Shipping Group plans to withdraw from the fifth container centre of Kaohsiung harbour. The action is predicted to help the company to reduce US$87.6 million running costs on yearly basis.
Chang dismissed the speculation, saying the company cannot abandon Kaohsiung harbour as goods in southern Taiwan need to be handled.
