Santos port to see $2b investment by 2010

Brazil''s government and private investors will pump US$2bn into Santos port in São Paulo state by 2010, Business News Americans reported.
A total of $367.6 million is expected from the federal government, partly from the county''s growth acceleration plan. As for private companies, investment is expected to total around $1.6 billion.
"This is good during this time of crisis," special ports department (SEP) head Pedro Brito was quoted as saying, adding that 5,200 direct jobs are expected to be created by the 17 projects planned at the port.
Santos, already South America''s busiest port, could jump from the current 80 million tonnes of cargo handled per year to 100 million tonnes within two years.
