In January-February 09, the port of Liepaja handled 600,400 tonnes (+24%, year-on-year), the port informs according to RZD-Partner.

In the reported period transshipment of loose cargo totaled 280,300 tonnes (-28.3%) including 234,300 tonnes of grain and grain products (-12.2%). Transshipment of general cargo amounted to 256,300 tonnes (+18.9%) including 85,100 tonnes of timber (-19.1%), 74,700 tonnes of ferrous metal (-14.2%). Transshipment of crude and oil products totaled 63,800 tonnes (-65.2%).

Throughput of stevedoring company Liepаjas osta LM totaled 178,400 tonnes (-9.2%), TransWide service - 136,800 tonnes (-20.8%), Laskana - 45,600 tonnes (+7.3%).

The port of Liepaja is the third busiest port of Latvia. Half of its turnover is formed by oil products and dry loose cargo from CIS countries mainly Byelorussia. In 2008, the port of Liepaja handled 4.19 million tonnes of cargo.
