HILLWOOD, an operator of a heavy load container facility, has leased 89,154 square metres to Alliance Brokers Inc at the newly created Alliance Heavy-Load Container Area, located near BNSF Railway''s Alliance, Texas, intermodal facility.

The container area''s first lessee, Alliance Brokers, will use the space to provide various logistics services, including heavy-load container transportation and drayage, reports Progressive Railroading of Milwaukee.

New private roads between the heavy load container area and BNSF terminal can accommodate heavier loads than public roads, owing to the removal of normal weight restrictions, according to Hillwood.

BNSF recently completed major improvements at the terminal, including the installation of new entry and exit gates, about nine miles of new track and two new bridges. The facility now can handle one million containers annually, up from 500,000 units previously.
