Maritime hall of fame honors leaders May 13

Five shipping industry leaders will be honored May 13 at the United Nations as they are inducted into the International Maritime Hall of Fame.
The Maritime Association Port of New York and New Jersey founded the hall of fame "to recognize maritime visionaries, who through excellence in their company, organization, or services, best exemplify the qualities of futuristic thinking that will guide the maritime industry in the 21st century." The five honorees, who will be present at the reception, dinner and program are:
• Capt. Timothy A. Brown, international president, International Organization of Masters, Mates & Pilots.
• Peter C. Georgiopoulos, chairman, General Maritime Corp.
• Doug J. Marchand, executive director, Georgia Ports Authority.
• Li Shaode, president, China Shipping (Group) Co.
• Douglas A. Tilden, senior strategic advisor, Ports America Advisory Board.
The Hall of Fame will also make a special institutional recognition to Seamen''s Church Institute on the 175 year anniversary of its founding.
