DP World to cut emissions by 35%
2009/2/13
DP World has revealed plans to reduce its carbon footprint and cut emissions by 35 percent at Jebel Ali port, ArabianBusiness reported.
The ports operator said it will fit new 16 gallon diesel engines in its triangular-shaped cranes.
During the Middle East Electricity 2009 conference, DP World added the engines will burn less fuel than the machines it currently uses.
This month, DP World’s second terminal in Jebel Ali will be operational, increasing the port operator’s total capacity to 14 million TEUs.
Last week, the company opened the Doraleh Container Terminal in Djibouti. It can handle 1.2 million TEUs and some of the world’s biggest vessels, making it the largest terminal in East Africa.
