Le Havre Port chairman Jean-Pierre Lecomte honoured

THE French Port of Le Havre has paid tribute to Jean-Pierre Lecomte for his contribution and devotion to the board of directors, a duty he has served for 15 years, and has now been renamed the "Grand Port Maritime".
Entered in January 1994 as a member appointed by the Le Havre chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr Lecomte, who was the then president of UMEP, became vice chairman of the PAH in June 1997 before becoming chairman for the first time in June 1998 as Eric Leloup ''s successor. He was then re-elected twice to this post in May 1999 and then June 2004.
During the ceremony port executive director Laurent Castaing mentioned Mr Lecomte''s involvement in port life, both at the local, national and international levels.
Among his achievements is his engagement in favour of Port 2000 as he accompanied and promoted the first outlines of the project in 1994 until its coming-on-stream, while going through the public debate and the granting of the funds necessary for its construction.
Mr Castaing also described his active contribution to the twinning agreement between the port of Le Havre and Shanghai, as well as his steady contribution to AIVP, the Cities and Ports International Association.
Mr Lecomte was also made a Chevalier of the Maritime Merit Order (1991), in the National Merit Order (1997) and in the National Legion of Honour Order (2006), a statement from port authorities noted.
